Bonafus winery

Since 2002, due to a continuous collaboration between the City of Turin and the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Studies (now the Department of Agricultural, Forestry and Food Sciences), a modern micro-vinification cellar has been created dedicated to scientific experiments and the realization of a representative wine of the Bonafous Institute. Subsequently other bodies participated such as the Province of Turin which contributes to the provincial wine research.
Since 2012 there has been the collaboration of Vignaioli Piemontesi which, by investing in the structure, offers winemakers the opportunity to carry out experimental microvinification.

The Bonafous Center vineyard covers an area of about 2 hectares on the hillside between the business center and the small lake. It also has an average gradient of 20% and a south / south-west exposure.
In the vineyard are mainly cultivated the most widespread vines in the Turin hill territory such as Freisa and Bonarda, but there are also some rows of less widespread Piedmontese vines such as Cari, Slarina, Montanera, Baratuciat. There are also some areas of the vineyard where some of the most widespread vines in the regional and international wine scene are grown, such as Barbera, Chardonnay and Pinot Nero.
Inside the vineyard there is a small ampelographic collection of minor and rare vines for the conservation of genetic biodiversity.

In addition, the winery and the vineyard are home to the graduation theses of some students of the Department of Agricultural, Forestry and Food Sciences, in particular the course in viticulture and oenology and, for some years, of the "alternanza scuola-lavoro" project for the students of the Agricultural Institute of Chieri - IIS Vittone.

The experimental cellar of the Bonafous center carries out experimental microvinifications for:

  • scientific research purpose for the Department of Agricultural, Forestry and Food Sciences (DISAFA) of the University of Turin
  • to obtain the documentation necessary for the homogenization of new clones and varieties, that is, their registration in the National Catalog of Vine Varieties.

In addition, in the cellar from 2008, with the grapes harvested in the old Bonafous center vineyard, different wines are produced which are sold to help finance the structure.
